Foreign Candidates
Minimum Admission Requirements
Applicants should possess at least one of the following qualifications:
- G.C.E. Advanced Level – Passes in any three subjects. Special consideration will be given to Pali, Buddhism, Buddhist Civilization, Sanskrit and Sinhala.
- Equivalent Advanced Level Qualification – An examination recognized as equivalent to the G.C.E. Advanced Level, duly certified by the relevant Ministry, High Commission, Embassy or competent authority.
- International Qualifications – London Advanced Level, Pearson GCE (Advanced Level), or Cambridge GCE (Advanced Level).
- Myanmar Qualifications – Pathamagyi or Dhammachariya Examination.
- Diploma in Buddhism or Pali – A diploma awarded by the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka or an equivalent qualification awarded by a recognized university or higher education institution.
- Higher Secondary School Certificate – Successful completion of 13 years of formal school education, or an equivalent qualification.
- Other Recognized Qualifications – Any other qualification recognized as equivalent and approved by the Senate of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.
Important
All foreign qualifications must be supported by valid certificates and relevant documentary evidence. The University may require such qualifications to be authenticated, certified or verified by the relevant Ministry, High Commission, Embassy or other competent authority.
The Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka reserves the right to determine the eligibility of applicants and the equivalency and acceptability of qualifications in accordance with the decisions of the Senate and other relevant statutory authorities.

- Preliminary Course in English and Buddhist Counseling Course
- Students are offered the certificate courses in Hindi, Tamil, Chinese, Japanese, Korean and French, free of charge from the second year.
Scholarships are available for foreign students who obtain higher grades at the 1st year examination.
Attention:
- Foreign candidates should be registered in their names mentioned in the passports. In case of differences, they must submit an affidavit certificate attested by their respective embassies or High Commissions.
- All the monks & lay male students who follow Bachelor of Arts degree are provided with hostel facilities in Paramitha Foreign Hostel on request at the registration.
