Educational Qualifications
(A) For Local Applicants
Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Pass 3 subjects in any stream at the G.C.E. (Advanced Level) examination with a minimum score of 30 marks for the Common General Test.
- Pass the Prachina Prarambha examination.
- Hold a degree from a government-approved local university, a recognized foreign university, or possess an equivalent qualification accepted by the Senate of this University.
- Pass a Higher Diploma program from the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka (e.g., Buddhist Studies, Buddhist Dhamma, Pali, Sanskrit, English, Tamil, Buddhist Counseling, or Buddhist Heritage).
- Pass the Daham Sarasaviya Higher Diploma, or pass the Daham Sarasaviya Diploma followed by 2 years of service as a Dhamma School teacher.
- Have at least 2 years of experience as a permanent trained teacher in a school or Pirivena.
- Pass any other examination recognized by the Senate of this University as equivalent to the G.C.E. (A/L) examination.
Note: Students choosing Tamil, English, or other foreign languages as a major subject must fulfill additional specific language prerequisites (such as an A/L pass in the subject, a Higher Diploma, or a Diploma with 2 years of relevant professional experience as a teacher, translator, or guide).
(B) For Foreign Applicants
- Meet one of the local applicant qualifications (1–7) listed above.
- Pass London (A/L), Pearson, Myanmar’s Pathamagyi or Dhammachariya exams, Cambridge (A/L), or any other qualification recognized by the University Senate upon embassy verification.
Important Note for All Local Applicants: Must have passed at least 6 subjects at the G.C.E. (O/L) or Pirivena Final Examination, including Sinhala or Tamil, with at least 3 credit (C) passes. (This credit requirement does not apply to those who sat for exams during periods when credit passes were not designated by the Department of Examinations).
Medium of Examination
Year-end examinations are conducted in both Sinhala and English media. Candidates must select only one medium. Changes to the language medium are not permitted after registration.
