The Vice Chancellor of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka, Venerable Chair Professor Homagama Dhammananda Nayaka Thero, was received in a private audience by His Holiness Pope Leo XIV at the Vatican on 17 June 2026, during an academic visit to Italy.

Earlier that day, the Vice Chancellor had the honour of greeting the Holy Father at a general audience.
