Eleventh Series - “Preaching the Dhamma in English”
First Session of the Eleventh Series
The Department of English initiated the eleventh series of its “Preaching the Dhamma in English” programme with its first session on the 09th September 2025, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, for the first-year students who follow their degree in English medium. A successful online lecture was conducted by Ven. Akurasse Saddammananda Thero – a Dhamma practitioner and a preacher, titled “Being a Happy Monk: Insights from a Foreign Dhamma Missioner.
Second Session of the Eleventh Series
The second session of “Preaching the Dhamma in English” programme organized by the Department of English was held on the 16th of September, 2025, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, for the first-year students who follow their degree in English medium. A successful lecture was conducted by Ven. Prof. Gonadeniye Pannarathana Thero, the Dean – Faculty of Language Studies, titled “Introduction to the Buddhist Terminology in English and their Usage.”
Third Session of the Eleventh Series
The third session of “Preaching the Dhamma in English” programme organized by the Department of English was held on the 23rd of September 2025,, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, for the first-year students who follow their degree in English medium. A successful lecture was conducted by Ven. Dr. Mawathagama Pemananda Thero, Head – Department of Sanskrit, titled “Essential Features of a Dhamma Sermon and Aligning it with the Teachings of the Buddha”
Fourth Session of the Eleventh Series
The fourth session of “Preaching the Dhamma in English” programme organized by the Department of English was held on the 14th October 2025, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, for the first-year students who follow their degree in English medium. A successful lecture was conducted by Mr. Supun Kaluarachchi, Lecturer – Department of Buddhist Culture, titled “Interfaith Dialogue: Understanding other religious perspectives and engaging in respectful and open discussions with individuals from different faiths.”
Fifth Session of the Eleventh Series
The fifth session of the “Preaching the Dhamma in English” programme, organized by the Department of English, was held on 22nd October 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The session was conducted for first-year students following their degree in the English medium. A successful and engaging lecture was delivered by Ven. Akurasse Saddammananda Thero, a respected Dhamma practitioner and preacher, who guided the undergraduates on effectively delivering a Dhamma sermon in English. The session also included a practical component, where students had the opportunity to present short sermons in English under the Thero’s guidance.
The programme continues to serve as an inspiring platform for students to develop confidence and competence in communicating the Dhamma in English.
