BPUSL Undergraduate Symposium in Archaeology – 2025
The Undergraduate Symposium in Archaeology for 2025 was held with great dignity on January 29, 2026, at the Homagama premises of the Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.
The inaugural ceremony commenced under the chairmanship of the honorable Vice-Chancellor, with the participation of the Deans of Faculties, as well as the lay and ordained members of the academic staff. Also present at the occasion were members of the non-academic staff, including the Registrar and the Bursar, as well as the internal and external student community.
The Head of the Department of Archaeology, Dr. Ishanka Malsiri, delivered the welcome address and clarified the objectives. The keynote speech of the conference was delivered by Dr. Sumedha Weerawardhana, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Peradeniya, under the theme 'The Importance of Archaeology for Buddhist Studies'. Professor Shakir Ullah, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Hazara, Pakistan, delivered the invited lecture on 'Gandhara Buddhist Heritage'. The event was adorned with cultural items and the presentation of mementos.
The archaeology conference for the year 2026 is scheduled to be held in November of this year.
