Celebrating Confucius Institute Day and China’s 76th National Day
The Confucius Institute at the University of Colombo organized a special event on October 1, 2025, to celebrate Confucius Institute Day and the 76th National Day of China. The celebration featured a range of Chinese cultural activities for first- to fourth-year students studying the Chinese language at the Department of Language Skills Development.
Prof. Lei Mingzhen (Chinese Director, Confucius Institute), Dr. (Mrs.) S. M. Thenabadu (Sri Lankan Director, Confucius Institute), Dr. Nimali Priyangika (Senior Lecturer), Mr. Isuru Lakmal (Visiting Lecturer), Ms. Li Jinyi, and Ms. Huang Liangyimeng (Chinese Volunteer Lecturers) took part in the event.
During the celebration, the two directors also visited Dr. E. G. I. P. Wickramasinghe, Head of the Department of Language Skills Development, to discuss plans for enhancing students’ Chinese language proficiency and expanding scholarship opportunities.
Students enthusiastically participated in various Chinese cultural activities, including paper-cutting, traditional Chinese painting, and chopstick games. In addition, the Confucius Institute generously donated a collection of Chinese books and paintings to the Chinese Unit, enriching students’ understanding of the Chinese language and culture. Finally, outstanding students who produced excellent artworks were recognized with special awards and gifts.
